Life.

Life has a way of defining us. Life gives us meaning. It shows us who we are and what we are made of. It makes an example out of us.

In line with the definition of the word, definition, as provided above by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, we are positioned to make some sort of a statement through the decisions we make and how we allow them to define us. Often how we decide to position ourselves, in any given moment, explains who we are. Eventually, as we witness the progression of our lives, we evolve into an example reflective of our internal and external experiences.

Every step we take, every journey we embark upon, every adventure embraced (or not embraced) brings forth defining moments. Moments that we cannot take back. Moments that hold the potential to make or break us. These moments are where our definitions can often be found.

How have you allowed life to define you? How have you allowed moments in your life to bring you meaning, value, etc.? Have you took a moment to reflect on the example (whether good or bad) you have become?

So, I will ask you, again, how have you allowed life to define you?

Is it by your happy times?

Is it by your celebratory moments?

What about your moments of accomplishment or achievement?

What about when you willingly embraced a new life experience?

How about that moment of utter excitement that you will never forget?

Or,

It is by the not so happy times?

It is by the times you almost gave up?

What about your moments of failure or disappointment?

What about when you told yourself you could not take “it” anymore?

How about that moment you made a wrong decision that you now regret?

Whatever defining moments you experience, whether good or bad, trust me, it is a gift. In fact, life, as a whole, is indeed a gift. Through our very creation, God breathed life into us – the most precious gift of them all. Someone like you and me were formed from the dust of the Earth and received the gift of life from our Father, which, by the way, was a gift not granted to any other creature on Earth.

Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. – Genesis 2:7 NIV

Therefore, we are special. We are special in our own individual way.

No matter what hurt, harm or danger has come your way, those moments are intentionally designed for you, especially. You are special because God says so; it is that simple and those moments just may have contributed to your definition today.

There is a quote by an anonymous author that says:

I am strong because I know my weaknesses. I am beautiful [or handsome] because I am aware of my flaws. I am wise because I learn from my mistakes. I am a lover because I have felt hate. I can laugh because I have known sadness.

This quote further illustrates how an individual can use moments to add to their definition and become all that God has gifted them to be. Moments in life give us character; they define us and also refine us. We simply have to decide who our author is and how we will act and grow from life’s expriences.

So, I present to you my defining moments blog – a blog that will showcase the defining moments of my past and present life experiences. I hope you will join me as I actively and boldly serve as a light, offering illuminating moments of transparency, honesty, truthfulness, and maybe a little bit of inspiration.

I have an innate desire to share my defining moments with you – not to boast nor brag but instead, to encourage myself and others while remaining purposeful in pursuing life and internalizing its moments. And even in what may be looked upon as a selfish desire, I trust that the God that is within me will use me to impart into whoever needs to be pushed towards defining their own moments.

Lastly, I will leave you with a little piece of my definition in hopes that you will be inspired to not only reflect on all of the defining moments in your own life, but also to develop your own defining statement. Enjoy, and be encouraged to allow God’s gift (life) to bless you in ways that only He can.
